Tim Vine-Lott is the longtime Technical Director for Air
Studios, one of the top recording studios in the world. Based in
Hampstead, London, they have been rigorously making music for over
40 years. Among the artists who have laid their tracks there are
George Michael, Mark Knopfler, Shirley Bassey, Nick Cave, Kaiser
Chiefs, Jay-Z and many others. In addition, the company is
Britain's premier scoring facility - about half of the top 10
movies at any time record their scores at Air
Studios.
The good people at Air Studios are responsible for
recording scores for movies like Pirates of the Caribbean,
Limitless, Green Lantern, Inception, 127 hours and How To Train
Your Dragon and, not coincidentally, the last three are nominated
for Best Original Score at the 2012 Academy
Awards.
Dynaudio Acoustics sat down with Tim Vine-Lott to get his spin
on our own M4, BM15 and BM5 monitors and was pleased to hear what
he had to say. First off, in a space-constrained place like studio
3 at Air Lyndhurst, the BM5 fits right in. It's a small
high-performance monitor that gives outstanding results, justly
appreciated by the audiophiles at Air Studios. Similarly, the BM15s
are a shoe-in for excellent sound in commercial studios or
post-production facilities while the M4s are high-quality, powerful
speakers meant to complement the superb acoustics of control
rooms.
Our tour Tim Vine-Lott revealed that they've been using the same
Dynaudio Acoustics monitors since the 90s, "the ones we have here
have stood the test of time - we've had them since 1992 and no-one
has asked us to replace them", Tim explains. Sure enough, the
fine-eared engineers are happy with the performance they get out of
their Dynaudio Speakers, the bottom line being, as Vine-Lott
admits, "they're good and reliable, what else can you ask
for?".
“They are very smooth sounding and the detail and imaging is fabulous, so I know exactly what sound I’m getting - the more I use them, the more I like them.”
Jona Weinhofen from Bring Me The Horizon talks about how the band is using the DBM50 monitors in the studio. Bring Me The Horizon have been recording their new album for the past 3 months in their studio in Sheffield (U.K.) and they are currently in the mixing stage.
"DBM50 - Powered studio monitors have it all," Mark says as he continues: "A really punchy but crystal clear sound too… I love it. Loads of great features such as low, mid, high frequency passes, level boosts and cuts.
Marc JB from Bimbo Jones (Remixer of Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Pink) shares his experience working with DBM50 nearfield monitors from Dynaudio Professional.
Having begun his career as a Berklee-trained jazz pianist and recording engineer, Wes Lachot describes his entry into the field of studio design as “coming in through the back door.”
Dynaudio Acoustics caught up with Mark Christensen to hear his view of the Dynaudio Acoustics product he uses, how he chose them and the role they play.
